WASPA was registered in November 2002 under the Societies Act (Cap 108), Laws of Kenya, as an association of Water Services Providers (WSPs) in the country.
The Water Act 2002 created new institutions — water companies — that took over water and sewerage services from their municipal councils. Placed at the leading edge of the sector, the companies formed WASPA as a forum to consolidate knowledge, share experience and learn from each other. Today WASPA is relevant across the sector for its network, its coordinating role among WSPs, and its advocacy with the Ministry and other actors.
